Breckenridge Bulletin Summer 2008

Timberline Learning Center is green. It may look blue, but the new childcare center, which is under construction by the Town of Breckenridge at the corner of Airport Road and Valley Brook Street is definitely green. The Center's design incorporates sustainable design precepts. By orienting the building east/west and designing a solar-friendly roof with clerestory, the energy required to heat and light the building is significantly reduced. Photovoltaic panels will be installed which is expected to reduce utility bills by more than 25%. An energy recovery ventilation system also increases efficiency by using warm exhaust air to preheat incoming air. High performance HVAC equipment, and upgraded insulation, vapor barrier, and windows have been installed to further increase the buildings efficiency, thereby reducing the energy demand and future operating expenses. The center is scheduled to open around August 1st. For additional information on the center or to enroll in the childcare program contact Director Leslie Davis at 970.453.9656 or info@timberlinelearningcenter.com

Breckenridge Bulletin Winter 2007 - 2008

New Childcare Center The Town is building a new facility, the Valley Brook Childcare Center (now known as the Timberline Learning Center), to add vitally needed capacity in our community. We're also taking this opportunity to build a sustainable and energy efficient facility. The Center has been designed to allow alternative energy technologies, such as geothermal, solar, and wind, to be incorporated at any time, especially as the upfront costs for installation of the systems comes down. The building has been oriented to maximize solar gain with the roof pitch designed to optimize solar gain. Other "green" building principles incorporated in the design includes water efficient landscaping, water use reduction, recycled and local materials, and construction waste management. The Town is paying for the design and construction of the new Center, which is slated to open next summer/fall. The new Center will add 67 new childcare slots for early infants thru toddlers.
