Our Mission...

The roots of Timberline Learning Center are planted firmly in Colorado’s Summit County and branch out to provide our community’s children access to quality, year-round early childhood education, regardless of socio-economic status.

Our educators celebrate diversity and honor the individuality of all children by providing them with the safety and space necessary to learn from their surroundings.

We at Timberline Learning Center hold our surroundings in high regard and endeavor to create meaningful relationships between the children and the world outside our doors. In doing so, we strive to strengthen the learning process for the children enrolled and share the responsibility for supporting our community’s children.

We Believe in...

» Educating the whole child—including their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development;

» Affording children the chance to interact with their environment in an authentic manner, followed by many opportunities to process, interpret, and ultimately learn from these experiences;

» Guiding children toward developing a life long passion for learning by directly involving them in the educational process;

» Promoting parental involvement in the classroom to enhance the community atmosphere and allow students to benefit from the talents and experiences inherent to other families;

Our Teaching Philosophy Involves...

» Allowing each child to find and experience success through a center-based classroom with sections devoted entirely to a specific content such as language, gross motor, fine motor, creative arts, music, dramatic play, etc. Our students are able to explore the ideas discussed, the theories needing further investigation, and the outdoor encounters we wish to recreate.

» Valuing our teachers, who serve as guides for our children and provide support and a loving, open heart along the way. It is the teacher who researches what concepts may be of interest to a specific age group and who makes sure that children in each developmental range are able to engage with the materials in every center. It is the teacher who connects with each child in conversation on a daily basis and encourages them to discuss, describe, and question their environment and extend their thinking. It is the teacher who identifies and utilizes opportunities for students to problem solve, respect diversity, and work cooperatively.

» Utilizing everything intrinsic to Summit County, including: learning from local craftspeople and visiting artists; exploring recreational opportunities such as skiing, swimming, rock -climbing, and hiking; and experiencing “real world” endeavors such as environmentalism and community service.

Breckenridge Bulletin Summer 2008

Timberline Learning Center is green. It may look blue, but the new childcare center, which is under construction by the Town of Breckenridge at the corner of Airport Road and Valley Brook Street is definitely green. The Center's design incorporates sustainable design precepts. By orienting the building east/west and designing a solar-friendly roof with clerestory, the energy required to heat and light the building is significantly reduced. Photovoltaic panels will be installed which is expected to reduce utility bills by more than 25%. An energy recovery ventilation system also increases efficiency by using warm exhaust air to preheat incoming air. High performance HVAC equipment, and upgraded insulation, vapor barrier, and windows have been installed to further increase the buildings efficiency, thereby reducing the energy demand and future operating expenses. The center is scheduled to open around August 1st. For additional information on the center or to enroll in the childcare program contact Director Leslie Davis at 970.453.9656 or info@timberlinelearningcenter.com

Breckenridge Bulletin Winter 2007 - 2008

New Childcare Center The Town is building a new facility, the Valley Brook Childcare Center (now known as the Timberline Learning Center), to add vitally needed capacity in our community. We're also taking this opportunity to build a sustainable and energy efficient facility. The Center has been designed to allow alternative energy technologies, such as geothermal, solar, and wind, to be incorporated at any time, especially as the upfront costs for installation of the systems comes down. The building has been oriented to maximize solar gain with the roof pitch designed to optimize solar gain. Other "green" building principles incorporated in the design includes water efficient landscaping, water use reduction, recycled and local materials, and construction waste management. The Town is paying for the design and construction of the new Center, which is slated to open next summer/fall. The new Center will add 67 new childcare slots for early infants thru toddlers.
